How Can I Be Saved?

Salvation refers to the deliverance of someone from something. When you place your faith in Jesus Christ He delivers or saves us from the wrath of God. As human beings each and every one of us is guilty of sin. Sin basically means to miss the mark. God has a standard of behavior in order for someone to be accepted by Him; that standard is perfection. When we fail to meet this standard or mark it is called sin. Romans 3:23 says "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," This means that everyone is guilty of sin. If you have ever taken something without permission, told a lie, or even desired something that belongs to someone else you are guilty of sin. That means you have missed God's mark of perfection.

Romans 3:10-12 says "10 As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one; 11 There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. 12 They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one." As sinners who have missed God's mark, we deserve death. Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." The last part of that verse has the key, though we deserve death God has made it possible for us to have eternal life as a free gift. This free gift is offered to all through Jesus Christ.

What does that mean? Romans 5:8 states "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." This is what has made salvation (deliverance from God's wrath) possible; the death of Jesus Christ! God knew that there was no way for mankind to be perfect, so He sent Jesus, His only son to live a perfect life and die on a Cross paying the penalty for sin. How does His death save us? We believe that we are sinners, that the only way of salvation is through Jesus Christ and we believe in Him. Romans 10:9 says "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." And verse 13 says "For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved." All you have to do is believe in Him trusting in His death as the payment for your sins.

If you have chosen to believe in Jesus Christ than the Bible has some wonderful promises for you. Romans 5:1 says "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ," Once we are saved by believing in the death of Christ we will never be condemned for our sin. Romans 8:1 "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit." Not only will we never be condemned but also our salvation cannot and will not ever be taken away or lost. Romans 8:35, 38, 39 "35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
